‘Tirupati will emerge as skill development capital of AP’
Tirupati: Tirupati is all set to emerge as the skill development capital of the state, speakers at the inaugural of the training programme on air-conditioner repairing and maintenance at the government ITI said on Friday.
The event was part of a joint collaboration between Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), Industrial Training Institute and Johnson Controls – Hitachi Air Conditioning India Limited (JCH-IN) to nurture a talent pool of skilled personnel to handle air-conditioners. This is the third such model training centre in the state after Vijayawada and Kakinada, while similar ones would be opened at Bobbili and Ananthapuram soon.
Tirupati MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao hailed chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy for mooting the ‘path-breaking’ idea of establishing a skill development university in Tirupati. This, he said, was part of the larger initiative to impart necessary skills to youths and offer them 75% of jobs. Apart from a skill development university in Tirupati, APSSDC chairman Challa Madhusudhan Reddy said 25 colleges in every parliamentary constituency would be established to impart suitable skills in tune with local needs. Under the current initiative, the JCH-IN would impart 90-day training programme for local youths which will help provide employment to 600 rural youths every year.
JCH-IN chairman and managing director Gurmeet Singh recalled that the state had accorded permission for setting up of five model training centres in a record 45 days. While the firm’s plant is based in Gujarat, Singh hinted at considering Tirupati for the second plant. JCH-IN had launched two skill development centers in Vijayawada and Kakinada last year, while the third centre opened in Tirupati on Friday.
“Hitachi is a global leader in air conditioning technology and we hope to produce world-class technicians in these centres. Our training centres are a step forward in supporting the government’s vision of skilling rural youth in AC repairing and maintenance. We have plans to impart skill in AC repairing and maintenance to about 360 rural youths per year. Our combined skill development centres in AP will train about 600 rural youths, enabling them to explore better job and entrepreneurship opportunities,” Singh added.
The centre in Tirupati will offer courses in AC repair and maintenance for four batches of 20-30 candidates in a year. The duration of the courses will be of three months. While the syllabus will be provided by JCH-IN, the certification will be done jointly by the company and APSSDC.
