Triple C
The place: 20-unit apartment building designed to meet ‘A’ energy efficiency class.
Located in the Badalona ward of the Barcelona metropolitan area, the ‘Edifici Roja’ is a new residential property, with 20 apartments from single-room studios to 3-room apartments.
With the Mediterranean climate, comfort for occupants implies space cooling for extended summer months and heating during a shorter winter season.
The developer had ambitious target to reach the A-class energy efficiency level in the Spanish regulated building classification, offering homeowners sustainable comfort and annual energy cost savings.
To meet those high standards, the selection of the most energy-efficient and fossil-free equipment was essential, while also being able to provide space cooling, space heating and domestic hot water.
The solution: Hitachi Triple C makes the ideal all-in-one solution based on heat pump technology
For the multi-dwelling building, individual equipment for each apartment was preferred over central system. Looking for heat pump options available on the market, Hitachi Triple C stood out as the best choice for several key reasons:
- Triple C is a unique multi-split system which provides air conditioning heats domestic hot water. The outdoor unit can power up to 4 indoor AC units and a domestic hot water tank.
- Decarbonizing air-source heat pump technology is used, which can be powered by a renewable electricity provider. The system harvests surrounding heat and transfers it between the outdoors and indoors as needed by occupants.
- With best-in-class performance, Triple C perfectly met Spain’s A-class building energy efficiency requirements. It results in lower annual energy spend for homeowners.
In each of the 20 apartments, one Triple C system was installed, combined with one ducted AC unit and a 190L domestic hot water tank.
- Each ducted AC indoor unit quietly cools/heats each apartment, with air ducts able to consistently diffuse air across the rooms.
- The 190L hot water tank is compact enough to fit inside 60cm deep storage cabinet.
In addition, the Triple C can connect to the Hi-Kumo app, for 24/7 remote control of the heating, cooling and water heating operation. Using this, Edifici Rojas homeowners can conveniently operate the system from their smartphone.
