The place: 4 medical centers grouped into 1
In the local health center of Jarnac, 30+ healthcare professionals offer consultations in offering a multitude of specialties, from general practitioners to dentists or psychiatrists.
The building, owned by the City of Jarnac, is located near the city center to welcome the local population. It is divided in 4 different blocks, one for each type of healthcare. The 4 blocks have been built around a central garden and are connected by an endless gallery. The architectural style favors minimalism and esthetic exposure of the building material, mainly concrete and local limestone.
The newly built infrastructure had to comply with stringent energy efficiency regulations in France, using only efficient and fully electric-powered HVAC equipment to minimize the carbon footprint.
The solution: A mix of Hitachi systems, all based on heat pump technology
With a moderate yet seasonal climate, thermal comfort in Jarnac implies space cooling in summers and space heating during winters, to maintain the indoor temperature at comfortable levels for the medical team and their patients.
In order to minimize the energy footprint of the Health Center, different solutions were selected based on each space’s purpose.
For the medical consultation and administration rooms throughout the building, small Hitachi VRF systems were chosen. Compact side-flow outdoor units from Utopia range are on the rooftop. Indoors, black 4-way mini cassettes blend-in with the interior style.
Inside the common spaces like the entrance, corridors, and bathrooms, Yutaki S air-to-water heat pumps was combined with with hydronic (under-floor) heating. In addition to heating with great energy performance, Yutaki can also deliver floor cooling.
Within the Health Center of Jarnac, a small lodging studio can accommodate temporary stays of medical professionals. For that studio, an independent Hitachi multi-split AC has been installed.
For the two blocks of dentistry and physiotherapy, where domestic hot water is in high demand, Yutampo heat pump water heaters supply large amounts of hot water with a low-carbon footprint, contributing to meeting the overall building’s high energy efficiency goals.
