Air renewal ventilation

Enhance IAQ effortlessly with 2-way ventilation solutions for VRF & split systems, ensuring precise temperature management and energy efficiency.

Ventilation solutions that are easy for customers to operate

Many ventilation solutions are overly-complex resulting in HVAC systems which become unbalanced, leading to higher energy bills for building operators and businesses, and wasted hardware that doesn’t fulfill it’s job properly. Hitachi’s approach to ventilation is to simplify, integrating control of the ventilation unit with a VRF, commercial split system or chiller using H-LINK wiring, and in many cases, integrating refrigerant piping into the unit to pre-cool or heat the outside air to unify it with the indoor set temperature.

1-way ventilation units for air renewal in VRF

KPI is a 2-way energy recovery ventilation (ERV) solution which uses the energy contained in the air being exhausted from the building to pre-condition the incoming outdoor ventilation air, so that the AC system does not have to work as hard. Compared to using a simple ventilation exhaust fan when running AC, it reduces annual electricity consumption by up to 79%(1) because of the reduced loading on the AC as the air leaving the building is replaced by air already conditioned to the set temperature indoors.

Because it does not connect to any refrigerant system to pre-condition the air, it can be used in both VRF and commercial split systems through a ducted connection and can continue to operate effectively when the AC system is switched off.

The unit comes with G3 filters fitted to both the air inlet and outlet, with the option to add an additional F7 filter at the final air treatment stage. An optional CO2 sensor can be installed to enable more precise control of the ventilation based on the levels of CO2 detected indoors.

Energy recovery ventilators for precise temperature management and efficiency

Hitachi’s Active KPI system is a 2-way energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system for VRF, which enables fresh outdoor air to enter a building and stale indoor air to be exhausted, while dramatically reducing the energy consumption impact on the AC system and ensuring precise maintenance of indoor temperatures. Compared with simple ventilation (through a ventilation fan or window), it reduces AC energy consumption by up to 79% during heating operation and 78% during cooling operation(1).

It achieves this by first using ‘passive’ energy recovery to extract energy from the exhaust air and applying it to the air entering the building, so that the incoming air is closer to the indoor set temperature. If a gap remains between the set temperature and this pre-conditioned air, it will automatically use the refrigerant loop to further heat or cool the air before it enters the indoor space, thereby reducing the load on the AC system and ensuring stability of indoor set temperatures.

The unit comes with G3 filters fitted to both the air inlet and outlet, with the option to add an F7 filter at the final air treatment stage. An optional CO2 sensor can be installed to enable more precise control of the ventilation based on the levels of CO2 detected indoors.

Connect to a Centralized controller

Control of Hitachi KPI or Active KPI units can be fully integrated with an Hitachi VRF system using H-LINK wiring and a centralized controller such as CentralStation, or via a CSnet solution, making it easier to operate and monitor ventilation and air conditioning as an integrated system.

Footnotes

(1) Calculations based on KPI-10002E3E working at nominal air flow rate using EN14825 standard to set working hours vs outdoor temperatures through the cooling and heating seasons. During cooling season an indoor nominal temperature of 27C (DB) and indoor nominal RH of 47% was assumed. Heating season indoor temperature of 20C (DB) and RH of 60% was assumed. Calculation determined that over cooling season a sensible cooling capacity totaling 4,402kW/h was required without the KPI unit to recover the ventilation effect on the indoor temperature, while with KPI operational the same number was 950kW/h. For heating the same figures were 26,172kW/h and 5,428kW/h respectively.
