Commercial split system

The place: DTR_studio architects turn a city townhouse into their central office

When the DTR_studio architects decided to change their main office location, they chose a terrace house in central Granada. This house was originally built in the 1960’s and has gone through multiple remodels over time, making the indoor space inconsistent and cluttered. To address these issues, the house had a complete remodeling to remove the inside walls and convert it into a spacious working studio - an ideal playground for the DTR_studio architects to express their design talent.

“The architecture offers a very clear example of the rational architecture of the time: a curved entrance, patio with covered porch, load-bearing double brick facade walls, intermediate bays with pillars and concrete beams, staircase made with brick vault.”

The new space layout divided the house per floor and per functionality:

  • On the ground floor, meeting and reception spaces were created to welcome clients and stakeholders.
  • On the upper floor, a large open space was designed for the architects to work with more privacy and natural light.

Granada is a city in Southern Spain with an extreme climate - intense summers and some cold winter days under 0˚C. In terms of climate control, the ground floor was already equipped with a suitable air conditioning system and so this was kept during the remodeling.

For the upper floor work area, the balcony was fitted with flexible wooden blinds to protect from direct sunlight during the summer. A new air conditioning system was also required to maintain a comfortable temperature in the upper floor.

The solution: PRIMAIRY ducted unit ensures a pleasant temperature in the workspace even in summer heat

From their previous experience with Hitachi Cooling & Heating products, the DTR_studio architects trusted our Japanese-born brand to provide a reliable cooling and heating solution for the new office’s workspace.

They wanted a concealed ducted AC unit, powerful enough to condition the air of the entire space through multiple air vents, yet small enough in dimensions to minimize the height of the ceiling plenum required to install the unit.

The PRIMAIRY commercial split system is the ideal solution, as it is designed to cover the needs of a large single zone space.

  • PRIMAIRY’s great performance can meet the local climate specifications of providing reliable cooling in up to 42˚C ambient conditions and heating down to -10˚C ambient.
  • The slim ducted unit (RPIL-3.0UFESNH1) has a height of less than 200mm, therefore fitting in the plenum ceiling space of the upper floor’s bathroom.
  • By ducting the unit to multiple air outlets, the PRIMAIRY system diffuses a comfortable and consistent temperature throughout the space, reaching all architects’ desks.
  • The low-noise level is perfect for a creative working space, quietly cooling and heating without disturbing occupants.
  • Thanks to its inverter technology, PRIMAIRY runs with very high energy efficiency levels - a SEER of 6.29 and SCOP of 4.05. It results in cost savings for the DTR_office as well as minimizing the building’s carbon emissions.

This way, thanks to Hitachi Cooling & Heating, the DTR_studio architects benefit from a pleasant and productivity-friendly atmosphere, so they can concentrate on designing more amazing spaces for their clients.
