VRF

The place: a space where the employees can size some of their time to exercise

Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta built a state-of-the-art fitness center in one of its medical centers. The fitness center occupies the entire first floor and is divided into six zones for different activities.

The facility required a cooling and heating solution, with the Hitachi VRF system selected as the best option because of its high energy efficiency and reputation for reliability. Quiet operation was also a key requirement because both excessive noise and breakdowns cause disruption to the schedules of both patients and medical staff.

The solution: an HVAC system that provides energy efficiency, reliability, and comfort

The Hitachi VRF system offered the best solution to meet stakeholder requirements:

  • Adaptable - energy efficient and configurable for the temperature requirements of six different zones, Hitachi heat recovery VRF systems can be configured to provide simultaneously cooling and heating of different spaces with a wide range of capacities.
  • Quiet and reliable - minimal disturbances to patients and medical staff. Relax with energy efficient systems that are easy to maintain.
  • Maintain visual aesthetics — minimal obstruction to the clean architectural look of the building by enabling flexible installation of outdoor units so they can be hidden from view.

The operating range of the Hitachi VRF system makes it a suitable choice for nearly every climate, while connection ratios of up to 150% and vertical piping lift of up to 360 feet provide considerable design flexibility.

Systems feature high capacities at both low and high ambient temperatures, while Hitachi’s proprietary SmoothDrive technology improves efficiency under part-load conditions (when the system is not operating at maximum capacity) by cleverly modulating the compressor speed based on real-time demand and enabling it to run at a very low RPM rather than multiple start/stop operations common in other VRF systems.

With an indoor units up to 2.25 Tons Hitachi VRF Ducted Medium Static, the emphasis on the comfort of patiens and medical staff extended to the clean architectural look of the building. The Hitachi VRF System was installed with a minimal amount of visible refrigerant piping. As a result, the visual integrity of the building is preserved.
